Ben Vereen lends his star power and voice to “We Sing for Ukraine”

NEW YORK – One of the biggest stars on Broadway speaks – and sings – to show support for the Ukrainians.

Ben Vereen told Dave Carlin of CBS2 how he is helping.

Vereen, the star of the stage and the screen, returns to Midtown. The second season of the CBS sitcom “B Positive” just filmed in Los Angeles has just ended.

Whenever you have the chance, run here.

“This is the heart, the pulse of the nation right here,” Vereen said.

Carlin sat down with him at Midtown’s Redeye Grill to talk about his latest project.

The fundraising anthem “We Sing for Ukraine” had a twist on Broadway, with its lead voice backed by a chorus.

“We put together this video that pretty much talked about the pain people are going through,” Vereen said. “A link to take you to UNICEF or Abundance International … we can help cure this plane if we join.”

Vereen has the power to make things happen. He has been a star since the early 1970s, appearing in “Roots” on television was a breakthrough, having found great success on stage.

In exhibitions like the one at the Civilian Hotel, you’ll see Ben Vereen of his triumph in the 1972 Broadway musical “Pippin.”

“I’ve never done a sitcom. I’ve been a guest,” Vereen said. “I work with an amazing cast.”

Carlin asked Vereen about a “B Positive” moment that stays with him.

“For Peter, who I play, who is a teacher, he’s battling Alzheimer’s,” Veren said. “And we realize he has a secret … it’s pretty touching.”

At 75, Vereen says he will revive his cabaret act next year and that more television and film projects will line up.

Look for this Broadway light to sing it whenever you can to give your voice and promote a cause that matters to you.
